If you are sharing the printer that is attached to the Windows machine, make sure that you rightly click the printer icon and selecting sharing.
In Linux, you simply go to printer administration (from a GUI in Gnome or KDE, it you prefer, but there are CLI commands for it as well), add the printer selecting NETWORK printer, enter the IP address of its location, and print a test page. Your distribution may a very a little in this routine, but it will be something similar.
You can also add the printer by opening a web browser or file manager and type in localhost:631 (as root). This will take you to a page where you can administer all your printing hardware, local and network.
