How about nforce4 support?
 

Hi,

So I was thinking of upgrading my computer because this one is falling apart.

So just wondering how well might nforce4 motherboards be supported in linux?

I'am thinking of a ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe or maybe some other manufacturers similar model. Allready read from asus web site that it provides some drivers for linux but how about kernel support?

And possibly migth want to point some other things I'am not thinking of.

You will likely have to use the latest kernel to get the support when it does come out. As always, Linux tries to get the bugs worked out before the big release. Unlike windoze who just throws it out there and hopes for the best. :tisk:

I have just installed Slackware 10.1 on a new machine with the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo.

Booting with the sata.i image (2.4.29 kernel)...

The Silicon Image on board SATA controller works (haven't tried RAID though). My hard drive isn't accessible when connected to the nForce4 SATA controller.

The nForce Ethernet worked right away (forcedeth driver). The Marvell Ethernet wasn't recognized probably because the driver module hadn't been compiled

Doesn't come with any on board video; currently using an old crusty S3 PCI video card (salvaged from an old pentium 90), so I haven't tried the PCI Express slots yet.

Also, Linux doesn't seem to like my Plextor SATA CD/DVD drive. I think this is due to ATAPI over SATA support not being enabled. Plugged an IDE CDROM into one of the IDE ports and installed from that - worked fine.

I plan on trying out the 2.6.10 or .11 kernels and the nVidia drivers when I get a chance to see if I can get everything else working.
