Hotplugging Printer(?)

I just got my printer to work under Linux, and now it works, but only if it's switched on as the computer boots, or if I restart the CUPS server when it is switched on. Is there a way to get it to start the CUPS server when the printer gets switched on. Is this hotplug? I have a usb printer. Any pointers towards howto's, or brief summaries on what I need to do would be more appreciated. I've had a google for it, but there's loads of info, and I'm not sure what I need.
Thanks
Guy

Have you tried setting up cups again? It took me a couple of tries when I was using RH7.3 to get my usb printer to work. Your printer should work after you boot up and then turn on your printer. Hotplug means you can disconnect and reconnect usb devices while your computer is still on.
Hope this helps
