When I want to switch from one Addonics Combo Hard Drive enclosure to another, I unmount the filesystems, unplug the USB connection from the enclosure, unplug the power, plug the power into the second enclosure, and plug in the USB connection. Everything looks ok from a hardware point of view, but Fedora C1 filesystem support still thinks it is looking at the previous enclosure.
I would think that it should be possible to inform Fedora that a new drive is in the enclosure without rebooting, but I haven't been able to find out how. I see a change related to hotplugging between kernel 2.4 and 2.6 mentioned in
http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net/?selected=usb, but I can't tell whether this means I should upgrade my kernel.
What is the procedure for switching USB hard drive enclosures without rebooting?
