Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Hot-plugging a SCSI Tapedrive

I am having problems in hotplugging a SCSI Tapedrive. Of course, when the tapedrive is connected before bootup, the device is recognised. The tapedrive in question is HP. I have tried using kudzu - the SCSI controller is recognised but not the device. I tried using the sg_utils but in vain. Has someone encountered a similar problem/found a workaround?

Thanks.
Ganninu.
