High CPU Temp

I'm running Mandrake 10.1 on a Pentium 4 3.0 ghz box. Now I know that the temps on these processors run hot mine runs about 60 - 70 Celsius. Thats with over 5 fans running. My question is does anyone know of a good way to cool these systems down. I am thinking about going with the liquid cooling. But before I go dishing out the cash I'd like to here if anyone can recommend something. I've searched all over google for some solid way of cooling this and everyone has there own opinions. Instead of running around in circles this website has helped me in the past so If anyone has found a great way of cooling a P4 let me know.

Actually what really helped me is cutting a hole in the side panel and making a pipe from the side straight to the cpu heatsink/fan. If your fan blows down through the heatsink it will suck fresh cool air from outside the case through the pipe and blow that through the sink instead of the hot case air. That dopped my temps down into the 35c range on a northwood celery 2.4@3.0 with the voltage kicked up.

Are your fans positioned correctly so that the air flow is one direction? In other words, if the back fans are blowing out, then the front fans should be blowing in. That way the air is all in one direction, which will maximize cooling. In contrast, if all your fans blew in (or all out) they'd be fighting one another. Along those lines, make sure that you don't have any obstructions near the fans restricting airflow.

In any event, 60+ temps are too high. Is your CPU fan spinning at the proper rate? May that's what needs replacing. -- J.W.

The CPU fan is a Thermal Take spark 7. Which was recommended by most along with Arctic Silver 5. I'm still in the break in period I just switched the fan and put the Arctic silver on last week. The stock CPU fan was running me even hotter. And from what I was getting on the internet intels fans suck. I have one fan on the back and one on the side of the case. And a Vantec pci fan. The vantec blows up at the processor the case fan in the back blows in and the fan on the side blows out. Right now my Cpu temp is 64.5c (as per Lm_sensors) and case temp is 33c.
