Hidden Simple Parallel Port Problem, Croching Stupid Newbie

!WARNING! :newbie:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Parallel port is not working (not configured) in SuSE 9.0 Profressional which also means it's unable to find the printer. My printer is a HP Deskjet 5550 and is fully supported by SuSE 9.0 so i know it's the port being not configured properly. So far i've changed my /etc/modules.conf file from advice from another member. close but no cigar.. less errors still no communication with the printer. heres the lines that i changed in the /etc/modules.conf file. :study:

/etc/modules.conf < snips..... also i didn't know what the protocol is/was
so i've tried.. 'frpw' 'lp0' and 'lpr'

########################################################################
# For parallel port devices, uncomment the following two lines and
# change "frpw" to the protocol type you use
########################################################################

post-install paride insmod lpr
pre-remove paride rmmod lpr

/~~/

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
options parport_pc io=0x378 irq=none
# If you have multiple parallel ports, specify them this way:
# options parport_pc io=0x378,0x278 irq=none,none

And after i get this working.. onwards to cry some more over the internal modem.. thats detected, similar probs.. BLOODY RAM EATING MICRO XP SHITs

Make sure that the parport is enabled in your bios of your computer.

See if you have kudzu available to start as a service.

SuSE has the best documentation out there. Don't you have the Docs? I STILL use my old SuSE 7.0 pro documentation as a reference.

I don't seem to have kudza. And i can't find the BIOS to enable parport... im guessing this is a linux bios thing since the port has worked in windows and other linux distros i have installed. This is a laptop to if that may cause any problems. As for documentation, i just got a copy of the net so i have now manuals and everytime i look for documentation in the menus i get KDE or GNOME related stuff.
