Hewlett-Packard keyboard error

Still running Mint 9

My USB keyboard stopped responding, so I plugged my Hewlett-Packard (I think it's a PS/2 connection). I had to reboot a few times because the system wouldn't detect it.
Now I have multiple problems (keymaps, scancodes?)
The Shift key usually works, but also wants to print a 6 as well. This is not always an isolated incident...
(for password sites like this one, I have to type the pw out in a text file, then copy/paste into a pw box)
When I open a folder with multiple files, the first one gets highlighted, then the next, and so on, all the way until the end.
Opening a doc has a similar effect: the cursor starts at the top...
The cursor likes to jump around too. (imagine what it's like playing a game - sit & spin, warrior)

My experience teaches me that usually when keyboard behaves this way it is always the "Keyboard" to blame. Check your keyboard connection if it is okay then you may just buy a new keyboard (USB preferably but PS2 is still okay). That's in so far as my experience told me. Keyboards are very cheap now a days.

I had only one USB keyboard, but I do have a few other PS/2s. I plugged two of the others in, & they work just fine.
I hesitate to mark this one solved, though; because someone else with the same problem may find a solution other than just switching units. So if I can, I'll just mark it the equivalent of 'undetermined'.

Thanks for responding.
