Angry Hercules 3d prophet 9800 pro

I seem to be stuck with a Hercules 3d prohpet 9800 pro. This would not have been a bad thing, of course, if I could make it work under Linux.

It seems like ATI doesn't like Hercules, becuase the fglrx drivers say,

(EE) fglrx(0): board is third party board

...and halts the X server. There isn't any question that the driver *would* support the card if it could, it detects everything nicely:

(II) fglrx(0): initializing int10
(II) fglrx(0): Primary V_BIOS segment is: 0xc000
(--) fglrx(0): Chipset: "ATI R350 NH (R9800)" (Chipset = 0x4e48)
(--) fglrx(0): (PciSubVendor = 0x1681, PciSubDevice = 0x0002)
(--) fglrx(0): board vendor info: third party grafics adapter - NOT original ATI
(--) fglrx(0): Linear framebuffer (phys) at 0xb0000000
(--) fglrx(0): MMIO registers at 0xfe9f0000
(--) fglrx(0): ROM-BIOS at 0xfe9c0000
(--) fglrx(0): ChipRevID = 0x01
(--) fglrx(0): VideoRAM: 131072 kByte (64-bit SDR SDRAM)
(EE) fglrx(0): board is third party board

and continues initializing modules, until

(II) fglrx(0): UMM area: 0xb0953000 (size=0x076ad000)
(II) fglrx(0): driver needs XFree86 version: 4.3.x
(II) fglrx(0): detected XFree86 version: 4.3.0
(WW) fglrx(0): DRI initialization failed!
(II) fglrx(0): FBADPhys: 0xb0000000 FBMappedSize: 0x08000000
Module called exit() function with value=1

Has anyone got a Hercules 9800 running under Linux? Help?

(Full XFree log here.)

If anyone with an ATI 9500, 9700 or so running with fglrx, I wouldn'r mind an XFree log either, to compare... I'm not 100% certain it's the error above. It might be for instance AGP issues.
