Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me with my subwoofer.
I have a 4.1 Sound System and a SB Live! Value Soundcard. Everything is working, that is, they are all outputing some sound.
However, what each channel is outputting is incorrect. First off, the four regular channels, 2 for front left and right, 2 for back L/R are outputting more the bass frequencies along with the treble and what not. The subwoofer itself, well... it makes a sound; It is outputting the bare minimum.
What I want is for everything to be working, more particularly the bass. Some songs just don't sound the same w/o the bass.
Please help!!
FYI:
Gentoo 2.6.8 R3 Kernel
KDE 3.3.0 and used the Control Center to slect ALSA as my audio device. I do not know if that was the right thing to do.
you may need to install emu-tools
there is a script to edit and have it use alsamixer instead of aumix
and there are some config options to set ........like routing the sound
signal to sub......and some surround settings you can set.........
You will have to edit ~/.asoundrc to mix the front channel to the subwoofer channel which is channel 5. Though all the frequencies will be passed to that channel, so you may need a software filter or an hardware filter. An hardware filter will be something like an active filter or a passive filter. Active filters are better than passive filters, but passive filters are simpler to make and cheaper. ALSA site and mplayer has some options that you can use for outputing audio through the subwoofer channel.
Well the subwoofer/center channel will be located at the very top. The front channels and rear channels is the second to last and last of the connectors. If your connectors are colored, orange will be subwoofer/center, front will be light-green or green, and rear will be black. This is basically for all sound cards that qualified the PC97 standards, but some of them uses brass or gold connectors.
