Help with movie playback & packet write conflict needed.
Using a single dvd device for packet writing & movie playback causes problems.
Xine will play the dvd "FBI WARNINGS" & then refuse to display the "PLAY MENU"
It seems that associating (binding) /dev/sr0 with /dev/pktvdvd0
interfers with the lsdvd program & keeps Xine playing certain
commercial movie dvd(s) on that same (/dev/sr0) device
If I run lsdvd on the problem dvd disc, it indicates that the disc
cannot be read.
lsdvd -x /dev/sr0
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access
libdvdread: Can't seek to block 3591534
libdvdread: Can't seek to block 3591534
libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.IFO).
However, if I mount /dev/pktcdvd0, ...then:
mount -t udf -o rw,noatime /dev/pkcdvd0 /mnt/misc
1.) lsdvd -x /dev/sr0 can read the problem dvd disc
2.) Xine can playback the problem dvd disc.
Also, if I later unmount /dev/pktcdvd0 (packet device) ...then:
umount /mnt/misc
1.) lsdvd -x /dev/sr0 "can still" read the problem dvd disc
2.) Xine "can still" playback the problem dvd disc
The mount/umount shuffle noted above can work around the problem
but an easier work-around is to just dis-associate the /dev/sr0
from (/dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0) the packet device file with one of
the following commands
pktsetup -d 0
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pktcdvd stop ,..Mandriva script
or to only associate a common dvd device like /dev/sr0 with the
/dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0 device after you finish playing movies on
that device.
pktsetup 0 /dev/sr0
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pktcdvd start ...Mandriva script
If anyone has experienced this problem & has found a way to
play dvd movies & keep packet writing enabled on a shared dvd
drive, I'd appreciate hearing your solution. Thank you
