Unhappy Help with generic cdrw/dvdrom drive

I'm new to linux been using it maybe a whole week if that, I am using Fedora Core 2, updated my kernel to 2.6.9 just tried using my cdrw for the first time last night, it wouldn't burn, I checked my hardware browser, it had it listed as a cdrom nothing about cdrw... I'm totally lost the name of the device from what I can tell is HL-DT-STCD-RW/DVD DRIVE GCC4240N manufactor is listed as HL-DT-STCD-RW/DVD, I'm not really sure if my cdrw worked before I updated kernel! I checked /etc/fstab it only had one entry for cdrom.. so I tried to do mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrw this is what I got :

[root@localhost home]# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrw
/dev/cdrom: Invalid argument
mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
/dev/cdrom: Invalid argument
mount: /dev/cdrom: can't read superblock

any help would be much appericated, please keep in mind that I am a newb Thanks guys!

First you can check what cdrecord tells you about your drive by typing:

cdrecord --scanbus

to a terminal. It should tell you if it sees your device as a burner.

About the mounting stuff, it doesn't matter if it's /mnt/cdrom or /mnt/cdrw.
