Help! USB ports will not work

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and I went to plug in my normal USB devices that always worked no problem before that and instead of showing a green light on the device it shows a red light and nothing will work. I have an external keyboard and mouse. I have an external monitor hooked up as well that works fine still. My computer is a Lenovo R61 notebook. Any ideas?

Are all the other devices you listed connected via usb also? Remove the drive, wait for a few seconds then plug it back in. Open your terminal and type: dmesg then post the output here to this thread.
