first things first.. Calm down, take a Deep Breath.. its not the end of the world yet..

Second, What software are you trying to run to operate youre webcam, a messenger(Kopete, Gyache), VOIP (SIP) phone software, or just Video4Linux Generic software?

Third, it is a Ricoh R5U870 Webcam attached to youre Laptop..

as http://svn.mediati.org/svn/r5u870/trunk/README covers, you need the Ricoh R5U870 Linux Driver.

or

the UVC-video driver..

--

The easyiest way i believe, is to go the UVC route.

to do that(Awesuming you dont have SVN installed or little Linux knowledge..

You want to open, From youre Standard Ubuntu Desktop, applications, Accessories, Terminal. then type as follows...
--

First you will need Complete control over the system.. so to start
Code:
Sudo -s
it will ask you for youre password, enter this. now you are logged in, on Terminal as ROOT.

once this is done, we can now start the process of downloading, and installing UVC.

type the following in as follows, and reply "Y" to any yes or no prompts, Respectively.
Code:
apt-get install build-essential svn
cd /tmp/
svn checkout svn://svn.berlios.de/linux-uvc/linux-uvc/trunk
cd trunk
make
make install
modprobe uvcvideo
From here, youre cam should work under Video4linux2, and any software that supports it. i know this works for Kopete messenger.

For some reason it seems as though svn (subversion) was not installed.
Either use Synaptic Package manager to install it or use the terminal and type
sudo apt-get install subversion

$ sudo apt-get install subversion
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
subversion is already the newest version.

and then i sudo -s and follow above instructions to get this:

# apt-get install build-essential svn
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
build-essential is already the newest version.
E: Couldn't find package svn
