my centos box had crashed 3 times! and the box could not been pinged, of course, it crashed.

when i reset my box, it worked again, and cat the system log:

cat /var/log/messages

it reads that:
Memory for crash kernel (0x0 to 0x0) notwithin permissible range

HELP!

Pointless posting logs from a restart. kdump is a somewhat specialized tool that needs some setup in advance. Don't worry about it.
If you want to look at (kernel) dumps with any prospect of working through them, set up the (Redhat) crash system - your choice whether you use diskdump or netdump. All documented on Redhat pages - I managed to get it setup o.k. on Centos although a little more fiddly than on RHEL I suspect.
Haven't gotten around to testing it yet, but I see no reason it shouldn't work as advertised.

There is one line (and some following lines) that concerns me:

There are a number of possibilities on this. It is likely to take some time on your part, if this is even the issue. be sure your sotware is up to date.

What we don't have is any real data as to what is happening. Any diagnostic output would be more helpful.

Try disabling SpeedStep. If that does not fix the problem, re-compile with out irqbalance. Another way could be to add acpi=off and noapic to the boot loader.

The crash looks like it is coming from the LSI storage controller.

The message stating the following.

Could be just a BIOS problem.

You should be using a 64-bit kernel instead of a 32-bit kernel.

BTW, my box crashed again this morning.

when i reset it manually, the display connected to it remained blank!
and, i push the RESET button(equiped on the front panel of my centos box) again, i worked perfect, till now, 15:45.

the log above is the fragment i cut from /var/log/messages, just after the first time i reset my box. and, i said, it worked again when i reset it for the 2nd time. strange!

it seamed that there is something wrong with smartd service.

any advice? ^-^

Why do you believe there is something wrong with the smartd service?

There is nothing in that log that shows anything problematic.

Have you tried the advice from post #7?

You are going to have to try to solve this systematically. Random approaches will not work.

Random crashes are difficult to solve; it will take time and patience. You need to test your hardware components first to rule out hardware failures. Have you run memtest overnight? Have you run motherboard and disk diagnostics?

After hardware is ruled out, then you have to focus on the software. Have you performed all the available software updates?

Finally, please don't use that silly text coloring, and chat-speak. It is very distracting, and difficult to follow.

There are a number of possibilities on this. It is likely to take some time on your part, if this is even the issue. be sure your sotware is up to date.

What we don't have is any real data as to what is happening. Any diagnostic output would be more helpful.

Sorry, I don't have anything specific for you.
i noticed that BUG.
i was not sure whether it course my box's crash.

Thanks a lot. Maybe, sometimes, i just have troubles to find a proper way to express myself.
