lspci told me

0000:00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 02)

but the modem is displayed as BCM V92 56K under Windows XP
which kernel driver should I compile under 2.6? and under 2.4?
tnx

PS the driver downloaded from the Dell site does not even compile.. and anyway it's for the 2.4 kernel

Sorry, I posted the above and then re-read your post and realized you had already tried this driver.

I've tried the driver and it seems to load properly on a 2.4 kernel...
but the device node isn't created for an error in the init script which I am not able to correct (error in mknod missing parameter)

if someone has this modem can please post a "ls -l /dev/ttyS*" or whichever other command that displays the major and minor numbers for this driver?!
