Help me out with my nvidia drivers.

I read the README pretty intensively and I ponder upon some details. Should I really boot into the shell directly? And how do I modifi the XFree86 config file?

Yes - you should boot into the shell (in a console type init3 (I think - it's been a while)), you can't update your drivers while you are using them.

You modify the config file by (as Root, either by using su or logging in as root) opening a text editor and typing in or amending the lines Nvidia say you need to to enable your graphics card to work.

To be truthful, I found it one of thse things that are really simple to do once you are doing it - reading about it freaked me out!

Good luck.

I don't know about init3,

but if you open the file /etc/inittab you will find a section like this:

# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are:
# 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
# 1 - Single user mode
# 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
# 3 - Full multiuser mode
# 4 - unused
# 5 - X11
# 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
#
id:5:initdefault:

chance the 5 to a 3 and reboot. This will let you run the driver install program. While you are there you should modify /etc/X11/XF86Config

by replacing

Driver "nv"
(or Driver "vesa")

with

Driver "nvidia"

In the Module section, make sure you have:

Load "glx"

You should also remove the following lines:

Load "dri"
Load "GLcore"

P.S. Why does your username contain the name baldor? If that's your family name we could be related (I don't think that there are very many Baldors around. At least, I haven't met any)
