I HAVE A DUAL OF WIN XP SP2 & PCQLINUX 2005 BASED ON FEDORA CORE 2, 3 , & 4,
NOW I AM CURRENTLY USING MY PCTEL HSP 688 MICROMODEM IN WIN XP & I HAVE A LINUX DRIVER FOR IT IN MY MODEM DRIVER CD ROM,

BUT MY FRIENDS I AM A NEWBIE TO LINUX & THUS I DON'T KNOW HOW TO COMPILE THE SOURCE CODE INCLUDED IN IT ,

I NEED HELP OF ALL OF YOU?

I GOT A INSTRUCTION FILE , TWO COMPRESSED TAR FILES & A *.DAT FILE IN DRIVERS IF YOU CAN HELP ME THEN PLEASE MAIL ME AT FOLLOWING ADDRESSES

Hi Rajeev,

I don't believe that the "688" PCTel modem is supported - only the ones that are labeled "789" on the chip. I suspect your drivers (in the compressed tar files) are for the 789 chip.

However, if you want to try them, you can do this:

tar xvzf your_tarfile_name.tar.gz

OR

tar xvjf your_tarfile_name.tar.bz2

which will extract the contents into the current directory. Then you can look for files with names like "FAQ" or "README" that may help you understand what to do.
