Help In Installing SM56 Modem In RH Linux 7.1
Hai,
Please Help me as I am puzzled . I have installed redhat linux 7.1. I could not find an RPM like sm56 which is the driver for my modem. What should I do ? Can I get the sm56 package from the net and Install? . Or If I get the package, Do I able to install ie Is the package absent because the kernel does not support it? I heared that RH linux 7.1 supports motorola chipset win modems my other version of kernel which is RH linux 7.1 provides this. I does not like to install this because this is the pc quest magazine's free version . So I do not want to see their logo instead of the RH logo. So please help me. My kernel version is 2.4.2-2 and I think the exact OS version is 7.0.7(seawolf)
Please Help me.
A bunch of thanks in Advance.
Bye

Most disto's don't have build in support for any linmodems (software based modems or winmodem), so you have to either download from the internet, or hope it came with your modem. And most do not. You can check out www.linmodems.org for recent updates, or go directly to http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/data-fax.htm which also has the driver.
You are very lucky you have any support at all.
Cheers,
Pete

Thanks. Ok I went through the site and saw that I have an rpm named sm56 ---- .RPM. How can I come to know that it is compatible with 2.4.2-2 kernel? They are saying in the site that it supports all the kernels starting with the 2.4 series. So what should I do?
Help me please. Bye.
