help forcing linux to use a PCI video card


I have a PCI video card and one built into the motherboard, by default linux will only use the built in one, how can I force it to use the pci one?

Start the computer. Get into the CMOS/BIOS setup. You should be able to find a setting to disable the on board video/graphic card. Save the settings and restart the computer.

Try editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf . There you will be able to edit device section. It should point to BusID returned by lspci for you graphic controller. Do not forget to put correct driver (or "vesa" to verify you put BusID correctly).
