HELP- ethernet device not working correctly
This is gonna be a little strange
i have an onboard ethernet card and a usb one. I know both works since in windows they do, and in mandrake they each worked in different instances(as follows) onboard was eth1 and usb was eth0 ( dunno how it got assigned) both eth1 and eth0 got ip from dhcp but eth 0 got the following: PING 172.20.67.1 (172.20.67.1) 56(84) bytes of data. From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted From 172.20.67.78 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted then i tried to reinstall mandrake and then onboard became eth0 and and usb became eth1 and then eth0 got that error before i don't know how to fix this, anyone expereince this before? it is defeinitely a SW issue on this box... thanks in advance |
Do you have iptables running?
This is typically an error that a rule in the 'output chain' of iptables blocks outgoing icmp messages. Try (as root) "iptables -L -n -v" If there are any rules listed in 'output chain', especially with reference to 'eth0' that is where the trouble comes from. You can also check /var/log/messages for any log entries related with iptables, but this does not give 100% guarantee. Blocking rules might be applied without logging. You can delete rules with "iptables -D OUTPUT <rulenum>" Rule numbers start with 1. jlinkels |
