help ! Destination Unreachable


hi

i am trying to setup a redhat platform connecting to other network using a router but i could not connect "Destination Unreachable" every time i ping the server , i already checked my IP Address, Gateway etc and even add route -n . the funny thing is other distribution like mandrake and suse can ping the IP of the server why is Redhat ver 9 can't ping . is there anybody already experienced this situation ? hope you could help me any inputs would be gladly appreciated .. thank you

Hi

What do you see if you type

netstat -r

in an xterminal?

You should see something like

root@StefanLinux /mnt]$ netstat -r
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface
169.254.255.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
169.254.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
default 169.254.255.100 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0

There -must- be a line with a UG in it, usually the same line with the address of your router.

If you don't see that, your Rh9 system won't be able to "talk" to your target PC.

Thanks for the reply sir , my apology for the late response i have'nt check my email this past 2 days because of field work by the way bro i already check my netstat and it seems to be correct my ip address is 172.18.47.21 subnetmask is 255.255.255.240 and the server which i am trying to connect is 172.18.47.17 is seems very odd that i couldnt connect even thought it is standard TCP/IP i still cant figure it out . please help on this one bro , thank you very much and GodSpeed

This is what i see when i execute netstat -r on the X terminal

Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window IRTT IFace

172.18.47.16 * 255.255.255.240 U 0 0 0 eth0
169.254.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo
default 172.18.47.17 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0

Sir Question...... do i have to add 172.18.47.17 on my Genmask ?

Question no.2 How can i add or change it in, X terminal what i mean is the command on consol
