Well, 2 things come to mind at first:

Open up kmix and make sure the volume is up.

2. Check the output of lsmod to see if your soundcard module was probed, if not, modprobe it...

Open up an xterm and type:
LSMOD (in lower case letters)
Check if emu10k1 is showing. If not type:
modprobe emu10k1

And then restart your X server by pressing CTRL ALT BACKSPACE

Now try again. If your sound is working, good, if not, let us know, and post the output of lsmod.

Cool

GT I.N.C 08-17-2002 06:34 AM

just a questions linuxpie, where did you get your RH distro from ?

linuxpie 08-17-2002 06:46 AM

from news angency in Sydney

linuxpie 08-17-2002 06:52 AM

still no sound, i did what you said, when i relogin, there said:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Resource temporarily unavailable)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

MasterC 08-17-2002 07:02 AM

As user or as root?

linuxpie 08-17-2002 07:09 AM

root

MasterC 08-17-2002 07:14 AM

Can you post us the output of lsmod ?

And, in case I am guessing the wrong "creative digital card" which card do you mean? I am referring to either the Live or the Audigy, they both use the same driver (emu10k1).

Thanks

And if you are feeling up to it, can you also post the 'relevant' sections of the output of dmesg?

Cool

GT I.N.C 08-17-2002 07:20 AM

i know this is way off your problem, but what news agency?

MasterC 08-17-2002 07:21 AM

ba ha ha ha ha, that's funny! :D

Cool

Thanks for your help ! :p

linuxpie 08-17-2002 07:27 AM

my sound card is :

Creative Sound Blaster Live

and with
Boston Digital Speaker

MasterC 08-17-2002 07:29 AM

Your filesytem is module? nevermind...

Do you have 2 soundcards?

The dmesg is a log file that is made during bootup, if you go to a bash prompt and type 'dmesg' you will get a flurry of messages. So you will need to type dmesg|less or open /var/log/dmesg in a text editor.

The relevant sections of dmesg would be anything pertaining to sound loading.

I am not an expert on sound or hardware (or anything really :D), but it looks like you are mod probing more than one sound card.

Cool

GT I.N.C 08-17-2002 07:44 AM

i have the same sound card, i had the SAME problem, but i forgot how i fixed it, i know this wasn't help, but its just to inform you that i think i posted a thread on this or i searched, so im sure you will be able to fix it by lookng around....

linuxpie 08-17-2002 07:52 AM

For MasterC:
sorry, i forgot i have another sound card which build in mother board(GigaByte)

And the dmesg is :
