Help! 9600XT not working with RedHat 9

I have a ATI Radeon 9600XT that I have been trying to configure for RedHat 9.

Unfortunately, I have had no luck with the many tips that I have found online.

The problem is that whenever I have completed all of the steps and I go to check out my Display properties I always get the wrong Memory size (I get 16MB instead of 128MB) and I cannot enable Hardware Acceleration.

Here is what I have tried so far:

ATI's installation
This tip that I found on linux forum:

Quote:

rpm -i --force fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.7.0.i386.rpm

At this point, the new ATI driver module has been installed, the verbose generated from the install will suggest you run fglrxconfig. Do not run fglrxconfig yet!

Instead, you will need to generate a customized kernel module - do this like so:

go to "/lib/module/fglrx/build_mod" and enter "./make.sh"

then go to "/lib/module/fglrx" and enter "./make_install.sh"

after this has been done, run fglrxconfig and 3d support should be good to go
and adding "ChipID 0x4e48" after Driver "fglrx" in the XFConfig-4 file after executing the previous tip...

I am at a loss and am fairly new to Linux... Here is my hardware configuration if that helps:

Asus A7N8X-X Motherboard
AMD 2600XP
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9600XT

I'm not sure that you'll need to know much more than that, so I won't list it.

Thanks in advance!

What shows fglrxinfo?? Do you compiled DRM on the kernel? Why adding this "ChipID 0x4e48" ? (I haven't done it with my Radeon 9500 Pro)
