Headphones for Ubuntu

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help with this. I'm about to receive a new PC to replace my current one. It's being built with Ubuntu installed (currently I'm running Ubuntu 23.04 and Gnome 44.3 -I doubt very much the new PC will come with that!). I have an old pair of TurtleBeach headphones and a pair of Sony audio headphones both of which work fine on Ubuntu. However, I'd like to buy something more comfortable and I'm wondering if I'm likely to hit some comparability issues. I've DuckDuckGo-ed the question and it's left me just a little in need of some Linux expertise either reassuring me or telling me what to avoid. I'm not expecting a list of recommended headphones BTW - just a yes, you'll be fine or Don't get that! I'm looking at either gaming headphones (probably Razer because of support from the Linux community) or more likely audio like Beydynamic. They'll be wired.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Wired as in USB or 3.5mm? If the latter then it is more of matching the headset with the PC's audio hardware specifications and is independent of the operating system. Assuming the audio hardware is supported just pick the pair you like.

If it is USB then it depends. If it needs drivers for special features then it may or may not work but in general audio should be ok. Make sure it matches the type of connector i.e. USB A or C.

michaelk - I had (until yesterday) assumed USB as I'd had a lot of issues with the audio but it turns out that it was an issue with the connection on the PC and plugged into the screen it works perfectly. So, I was rather favouring the audio (mini-jack) connection. I have realised that any software the headphones require might be an issue on Linux hence favouring Razer. But I have to admit at the moment I'm edging towards an audio solution as I don't use the mic on my current (ancient) TurtleBeach pair.

Thanks for the reply - I feel reassured! There's a lot of conflicting information out there regarding Linux and headphones and I don't want to make an (expensive) mistake.

Any pair will work. Yes, even Air Pods.

Air Pods are Bluetooth so yes they should but it assumes the PC has that capability.

Just some feedback in case a) anyone is interested or b) someone else finds themselves asking the same thing.

I bought HyperX Cloud Alpha. They use the audio jack and the microphone is detachable which makes them ideal for my purpose (I didn't want a mic)but I wanted them for gaming. Plugged in a few minutes ago and all functions perfectly. Really pleased. So, thanks again for the help!
