HDMI not working when using intel graphics card - Linux Mint 19 - Dell G5 15 5587

Hello, I have been searching through this forum (and others) fore somebody with my same problem and after failing to find it, I am posting this (usually the solution is always found in this web page ;) ). I am thinking of updating the kernel to the 4.18 (I read that is the latest stable release), as my computer is quite new and I read through the kernel changelogs of the 4.17 (mint uses 4.16) that there has been an improvement over HDMI 2.0 cannon lake, and my computer uses HDMI 2.0, but I am not understanding how to manually upgrade the kernel nor if it is a good idea.

I have a new laptop, the Dell G5 15 5587, uses the GTX1060. I cannot get information anywhere on the internet about the intel graphics card, but I think it was the 630. It has the i7 88750H. I paste above the output of

Thank you in advance for the help and sorry if I am forgetting to give some information... It is hard to love linux so much while being a complete newbie!

Update : I have upgraded the kernel to 4.18.15-041815-generic and the problem persists

According to https://ark.intel.com/products/13487...p-to-4-00-GHz- you do have Intel 630, but when you have both Intel and NVidia gfx it's called Optimus. Optimus requires special driver configuration, of which one is Bumblebee. You may not need an updated kernel if you haven't configured for having Optimus hardware. What is the output from
Code:

sudo inxi -Gxx

Here it is
Quote:

Graphics: Card-1: Intel Device 3e9b bus-ID: 00:02.0 chip-ID: 8086:3e9b
Card-2: NVIDIA GP106M [GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile]
bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 10de:1c20
Display Server: X.Org 1.19.6
drivers: modesetting,nvidia (unloaded: fbdev,vesa,nouveau)
Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design/PCIe/SSE2
version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 390.77 Direct Render: Yes
I think my problem "is not a problem"... I've tried a clean windows installation with all drivers except for nvidia ones, and I didn't manage to detect my monitor. However after installing nvidia drivers, it automatically detected de monitor when plugged in, and it activated the nvidia gpu. So I think this is just how this PC works... So in absence of other opinions, I think this thread is solved except for one last question. żDo you think it is a bad design? I think it is and I am thinking of returning the back this laptop...

I think it is bad for an Optimus user not to install drivers according to dual GPU instructions, which causes higher power consumption always and thus significantly less battery life.

HDMI not working when using intel graphics card - Linux Mint 19 - Dell G5 15 5587

I own a Thinkpad T520 with a duel GPU Nvidia basically Optimus. After researching this I want into the BIOS and disabled the Nvidia GPU. Optimus is not really supported in linux that well. If you got Optimus running as soon as you update the kernel it will break Optimus.

Linux I think will never have drivers like Windows does due to manufacturers not taking Linux seriously as an alternative for windows.
