HDD stopped spinning

60 GB ATA/133

It wasn't show in dev and when i opened case it had stopped spinning. I tried that whole freezing it, didnt work! Any ideas or similar experiences?
It was my backup HDD, I need everything on there!!

Download the Ultimate Boot CD and try out some of the hard disk diagnostics to see if the drive is dead or not. My only experience with that type of a behavior was a complete hard disk failure. You can send them away to professionals to recover, but it'll cost you if the drive doesn't spin.

Were you using any particular backup program? Some of them access the disk more often than is needed if you don't mount the disk with the noatime option.

Also, you should have several sources of backup. I typically backup my backup drive to DVD sets every few months.

I was planning on buying a dvd burner and external HDD during holiday sales! dang it! I had the UBCD iso on there!
I used rsync to backup my system, about once a week.
