Hi
This morning I was woken by my server issuing a series of loud strange and high noises which suddenly died. After some checking I discovered that one of the hdd in it (storage only tg) was not readable. syslog showed lines like this:
Code:
kernel: Buffer I/O error on device hdc1, logical block 3
kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 63
and fsck gave me this as answer
Code:
dosfsck -r /dev/hdc1
dosfsck 2.11, 12 Mar 2005, FAT32, LFN
Read 512 bytes at 0:Input/output error
any way that I can
a) restore the data
b) restore the hdd
and
c) restore both
The problem is it is the biggest hdd in my system with 40GB and so holds pretty much most of my older data that needed to be stored somewhere "convenient"
Just rebooted the machine to run some testing utils I got on other platforms and the BIOS does not "see" the hdd at all. I believe it is new hdd and dd time to restore data then
