My problem is that my HDD partition (/dev/hda2) has suddenly gone. I had a problem with it before: it didn't mount the device during booting. I had to mount it manually after the system has booted.
But now:when i try to mount the partition it says: "mount: /dev/had2 already mounted or /data1 is busy"
What is this error message??? As this problem appeared i received some unusual messages during reboot:
'device-mapper' I would think wouldn't have to do with your hdd, probably just your mouse. That's just a guess, as I'm unable to make any sense out of those messages.
My suggestion would be to see if you can't access said partition under a liveCD (eg, knoppix). It's possible the partition has been corrupted (though I think it's unlikely).
I'm using SUSE Linux 9.2 on Toshiba Tecra 8000 notebook.
Maybe its something with the mouse as you said...but I don't have any problem with it.
This might be a stupid question, but I'm new to Linux... What is liveCD and what do you mean on getting access from it?I have a copy of SUSE 9.2 install on 5 CDs.
Well it looks as though the mouse error resolves itself, so don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
I assume you've looked in /etc/fstab to see if your partition gets mounted on boot.
You can download knoppix from http://www.knoppix.org/. The way it (a liveCD) works is you stick it in your drive and (hopefully, given proper BIOS settings) it boots the linux distribution on the CD.
So get knoppix, boot it up, and see if you can mount and access the partition in question.
I see... But I didn't mention about another problem:
My machine unable to boot from ANY CDs! Don't ask why! I must remove my HDD and put it in a desktop computer which can boot from CDs...
Any other way to solve this?
If your machine doesn't boot from the CD, my first guess would be that your BIOS boot sequence may just be set up to boot from either the floppy or the hard drive before it tries to boot from the CD. If so, modify that sequence so that BIOS tries to boot from the CD first. Good luck with it -- J.W.
