Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

HDCP compliant and noncompliant cables

My old HP monitor has HDCP built in, and connected via VGA, I've been using it for years with no problems. Haven't played any DVD's on it, but have watched Amazon Prime Video on it.

Yesterday, I ordered a DisplayPort to DVI-d cable, to see if it would make the monitor look even better to the eye.

My concern is, one of the questions asked and answered about the cable is "it will fail the HDCP test as it has a DVI on the other end..."

Just curious as to how this cable might affect my viewing experiences. DVD's, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc....

Cable purchased is at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

Addendum: I see this cable support hdcp video (but not audio). Perhaps audio could come through external speakers? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H2WBV2A...v_ov_lig_dp_it

After my attempts to get audio out of a server I ended up buying a video card with hdmi. Everything in the path needs to support audio back into the system and bios. Even an active cable didn't help me.

Interesting.

My video card seems to already support hdmi. I'm just switching from the VGA to see if it will make the monitor look better. As is, Amazon Prime video works fine with the VGA set up. If I install the new cable and don't see much video improvement, and things like Prime Video won't work right, I'll go back to VGA I do think. However, if the DisplayPort to DVI cable makes things look much better on the old monitor, then I think I'll just use a torrent to get the same content that I'm already paying for.

I forget what that prime deal was but I never had an issue with it.

Amazon hd I suppose could be 4K but I have nothing that is that good.

I think I read that dvi-d cables can't transmit audio anyways. So audio must come through an audio cable, eh?
