these errors show up in dmesg after a sudpend and resume from acpi s3. basically, i want to understand what they mean and whats causing them. i dont know if they are occuring because of the resume from s3 or if they may happen other times when the drive is under heavy load, etc. i havent seen anything like this during boot, so i'm not really sure what to think.
it seems like the lost interrupt is the main error and the other messages are showing attempts to recover from it? does that sound right? eventually it does something and has success, but all of this adds about a minute onto my resume from s3. i'm also concerned that i may be damaging my hard drive when using s3 or other times that this may be happening when i dont know about it. if anybody can help me decode these messages and help me resolve them, i'd really appreciate it.

Since no one has replied - I'll chime in and let you know that I too have had this problem.

And it really is a big problem. Basically for me, one hard drive had random large clicks (while in windows - so I couldn't dmesg or anything) and when I finally stopped being in denial and freaked out I booted knoppix and tried to back everything up - oh what a fool i was.

hda: interrupt lost

Everytime I tried to read alot of data off the disk (like when you're backing stuff up to dvd) I got this wonderful and helpful message. Within days my drive completely failed and I lost everything. Now my other drive has started doing the same thing and it now also locks up in the same way and gives me the same error messages.

I think its my hardware setup - every drive I have owned so far (3 of them) have met this untimely death. I really don't know what is going on and noone else seems to be having this problem - the latest reports and results on google date back to ~2003 and mostly dead with 2.4


Basically backup everything you want and find the reciept for your hard drive.

Also run smartctl tests and see what kind of errors you are getting.

actually, the drive has started making a clicking noise recently, it happens about 5 seconds after the drive is accessed, every time it's accessed. i've never gotten a lost interrupt when copying lots of information, but then again, its a laptop and i dont have a lot of big files on there anyway. I've burned a couple of cd's tho, that should have given me the lost interrupt if i was going to get it, right? smartctl gives me a sparkling report, so i dunno whats up. the drive is a hitachi and i've heard they're infamous for hardware malfunctions so i'm gonna go for a mobile seagate when this thing finally dies.
