Hd4290 not working in Debian
 

I just got a new sata hdd for the amd64 machine in my signature Asus mobo reinstalled debian wheezy. I didn't have any problems on the last install because I used an add-on nvidia 9400GT card. Anyway I decided to checkout the onboard hd graphics & it is not showing very well. I was looking at the xorg man page on line & it doesn't list which driver to use for hd4290 also the chipsets is 890gx. I'm not at the machine now but I will post my xorg file as soon as I get back to it.

Just realized my mobo isn't named in my sig, it's a M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
Iwas looking at this does it mean the 4290 is unsupported?

For the HD4290 you should either use the free radeon driver or the proprietary driver from AMD. If you want to go for the proprietary driver, keep in mind that you have to use either the 12.4 driver (which has to be patched on 32 bit systems if you have a kernel newer than 3.2.7) or the 12.6 Legacy Beta. Yes, AMD considers that video-chip to be legacy hardware.

Yes I was going to try the drivers from the AMD site I tried the 1's that are in sid but the fglrx package warned me that my card was unsupported. So yes the next option is to go to the source.

To get rid of the watermark do this as root:

I was under the impression that I was having resolution problem with open source driver until I looked at the desktop images in the /usr/share/images & saw that the default images are just bland. I learned this after putting nvidia card back in.
Another thing I noticed is my monitor frequency is running really high. It's an old crt that should be ru ninth at 70mhz & is running at 85 or 89 Mhz. I tried to create xorg.conf file it errored saying the number of displays doesn't match the nu.ber of devices.

CRTs can run at more than 70Hz. As resolution goes up, refresh rate goes down.

With the last CRT I used a lot, it would run at 1920x1440 @ 60Hz, 1600x1200 @ 70Hz, 1280x1024 @ 85Hz, and (IIRC) 1024x768 @ 100Hz.

Thanks cascade9 thats good to know as I just don't want it to fail atleas until I can get the monitor that I want.
What do you think is causing this error when trying to create xorg.conf file?
