Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Unhappy HCF Modem & Mandrake 9.1

Hi,
I've recently installed Mandrake 9.1 on my system, and as many people seem to be finding, I cant get the modem to work...the details of the modem are as follows:

PCI CONFIGURATION INFORMATION READ:
Vendor Id : 14F1
Device Id : 1035
Revision Id : 1
Sub Vendor Id : 14F1
Sub Device Id : 1035

DEDUCED INFORMATION:
Vendor Name : CONEXANT
Device Name : HCF P85 Data/Fax/Voice/Speakerphone
Modem Type : HCF

It's an internal modem, and meant to be a proper hardware modem, not a winmodem. I have a driver for it from linuxant.com that seems to work.

The issue is this: When I try dialling, it dials, then seems to get a "line busy" error thingo and tries to redial...I know the lines on my ISP aren't that busy as I can dial in on my windows box no problems. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
