Hawking Prism2_cs Card
Hey, Installing Vector Linux Soho 5.1.1 Soho on an older, 1 ghz pIII laptop. Everything else so far is working perfectly, And the wireless card is the only thing giving me problems. It's detecting and then beyond that it doesnt load wlan0 or anything new into the iwconfig or ifconfig or anything. Here's my dmesg when i plug the card in.
prism2_cs: Ignoring new-style parameters in presence of obsolete ones
prism2cs_init: prism2_cs.o: 0.2.1-pre26 Loaded
prism2cs_init: dev_info is: prism2_cs
pcmcia: prism2_cs lacks a requisite callback function
It's also loading the card as p80211.o. I believe that's all the info i know that applies, if you need something else to help me out let me know and i'll reply ASAP. Trying to get this installed and working and back to the person quickly.
Thanks in advance.

I have never used a pcmcia wireless adaptor...
If you do `iwlist scan` does it come up with the interface for the wireless card? If so the you will need to bring the interface up using `ifconfig <interface> up`.
Then you can do the other things to get it on the network.
I don't know if that is any help at all though.

As i already stated, it doesnt add to the interfaces list. This must be a problem specificaly with 1 piece of software used in the vector install i'd assume since i used a live CD i had on hand, Whax, and it appeared in the interface list with that.

I'm using a prism2 card myself, and had to use wlan-ng for it to work. Some of them have to have its firmware loaded into main memory before it would work. Google for 'wlan-ng' and see if your card is one of the ones it supports (it's kinda like a driver deal, and the wireless tools in linux don't work with it)

Ok well i discovered that its not a prism2 card, for some reason it keeps trying to load the prism2_cs modules instead, but if i pop the card out of the PCMCIA slot, and then modprobe orinoco_cs then pop the card back in the card loads up PERFECTLY.. so does anyone know how to change it so everytime i start up, or when i just pop the card in by itself, it loads the orinoco_cs instead of the prism2_cs modules?
Thanks a bunch in advanced i need and answer ASAP, i'm trying to get this laptop back to its owner.

Problem solved, i played around for a while grepped for some things, and figured out that if i added the modprobe orinoco_cs into rc.modules it would load before anything else could and now the card works perfectly from start up.
