having problem with going online
 

HI i need some help
I have installed
OS: RH fedora core.
Actiontec serial modem.
everything is ok
when i try to dial in internet . it give me error "kppp died out unexpectidly"
i need some help here please

the second problem is my sound
i have creative sound blaster live value . when doing the hardware test everything is ok . but no sound . i may have been missing some steps any suggestions please>

I cant help with the kppp error, but I may be able to off some help on the SB Live! card. What sound daemon are you using? You can check in the KDE Control Centre under Sound System. Also what kernel version are you running? (Find this out with "uname -r" in a terminal) If the kernel number is one of the newest "stable" 2.6.11 or 2.6.12 kernels, then ALSA seems to not want to play nice. If it is an earlier kernel - Please go through this and make sure you have done all of it.

1)Downloaded and compiled (or otherwise installed) Alsa-lib, Alsa - utils, and Alsa - oss (these probably came installed on any newer distro) I believe Fedora has some RPM management program that can do this rather simply. (I have never used an RPM based distro - Sorry I can't be more help about what program it may be)
2) as root user, run "alsaconf" - That should detect any cards you have in your system.
3) use a mixer program (such as amixer, kmix, alsamixer etc.) to set volumes after alsaconf has exited. Make sure that 'Master' and 'PCM' are unmuted and raised to a reasonable level.
4) Check connections on the computer, see if anything is unplugged.

If you are using OSS or some other daemon to control sound - I cannot be of help. Sorry. If you are using a newer kernel and SB Live!, unless you have some compelling reason to keep the newer kernel I suggest you downgrade to 2.6.9 or 2.6.10, as those were the last to actually do well with SB Live! in my experience.

Hopefully , this will get you up and running. If not, please post back with your /etc/modprobe.conf contents, the result of "lspci" (put that into the terminal), and "lsmod"(same as lspci - put it in the command line)
