Has anyone ever used a Sony GY-8240 DTF tape drive?

I'm trying to get this DTF Tape drive working. It was purchased used & without the manual. It has the fiber channel interface & an ethernet interface (for maintenence, I believe).

I've got the fiber hooked up.
I've got the ethernet hooked up.

I can't seem to telnet or ftp to the drive through either interface even though the if I nmap the device, I see those ports are open.

I have really no idea how to access it at all.. any clues?

As is typical, I answer my own question right after asking it... but not before banging my head on it for hours.

SO, somehow, magically, typical mt & tar commands work on /dev/st0. I can rewind, eject, etc.

I cannot however, read any data off the drive with a simple "tar tvf /dev/st0". I don't know if it's the tape itself or something else. So if anyone else has used one of these drives, I'd love to know if you access it through a simple tar command on /dev/st0.
