Hardware to drive LED Meter along with Linux software

I have a motherboard that has an internal serial port that I can connect to, and I have found a 26 segment LED bar. What I'm looking for is the linux software that would evaluare the processor load and output that through the serial port.

The other problem I'm running into is I can find LCD displays that run off of the parallel port and give the information I"m looking for but nothing that will drive the LED's.

I'm just wondering if anybody here has done this or has seen the product anywere around.

Any help would be greatly apreciated. I'm doing this on a prototype I'm designing for a potential customer.
