Hardware RAID5 not working after CentOS5.2 install
 

I have an Intel S5000VSASATA motherboard with hardware chip RAID 5 installed. 6 1TB SATA Seagate Drives. 1 RAID 1 2 drive striped 64k for op system. 1 RAID 5 4 drive Striped 64 k for Data. During the install both raids are seen and by default are set to logical volums. After install the drives are showing as seperate drives sdb, sdc, sdd, sde. I have been on the phone with RED Hat and they can't make any suggestions. I am guessing this is a hardware issue but in the days that I have spent researching this problem I can't find any reason for te hardware not to work.

Could you post the output from (as root):
ls /dev/sd*
dmesg | grep ^sd

Asking for tech support on Centos from RHEL is not likely to get very far. RH gets their money from the the sale of support(that is what one is paying for when one "buys" RHEL).

Simple question (just verifying), you do have AXXRAKSW5(from Intel) installed(needed for R5 support)?


And lastly: if you look here (below) you will see that you do not have Hardware raid but software raid(Fake-raid, just google it).

Drive issue
 

I do have the key installed. As I said the install sees the RAID 5 configuration. Does the fact that the RAID is a fake hardware configuration change how Linux sees the drive?

Yep. If you do not have the correct driver up and running at boot time, it will not see the drives as an array but as separate drives. Just google Fake Raid. There may be some other issues as well. If you are booting off the array, how does the system get the drivers to recognize the array being the most pressing(basically it cannot).
