hardware problem causes desktop freezing


Hello!
I have ubuntu edgy 6.10 and it begin to freeze from time to time. Any keys do no effect except for reset key.

I've examined /var/log/messages and found following right before freeze:

Does it mean my hda device is garbage now? Advice me what to do next.

The DMA and CRC errors seem to indicate that the hard drive or the on-board IDE interface is going bad. However it just might be a thermal issue (heat) with the CPU and/or hard drive.

You might want to shut the system down and open it up and clean it (canned air outdoors for starters) and maybe redo the CPU thermal grease. If you still have the errors then backup everything of importance and replace the drive or motherboard. Check the hard drive on another system to decide which to replace, both can die a slow painful death.

You may want someplace to physically clean the system and help you decide if the problem is with the hard drive or motherboard.
