Hardware Configuration Issues

Good day everyone.

I am just beginning with Linux 9 and have been issued a Dell Latitude D600. Now that I have Red Hat 9 loaded a couple of issues have presented themselves that I am not sure how to address. The first problem is the onboard modem does not show up as being present, how can I resolve that issue? The second issue is the cd and floppy are interchange for the same drive slot. I have been able to determine the floppy is a USB interface. How can I configure so that the floppy can be accessed when it is installed in the system?

Regards,
Terry

this site can help you with your modem:

http://www.linmodems.org/

remember that most winmodems simply won't work with linux...

i don't know about the usb floppy, though... i'm sure somebody will post about it soon... hang in there...

I second that link...

Just got my modem on line with SCANMODEM from above link site (run it only in linux)....read it and read it (read the auto made modemdata.txt doc it will create in root). download the recommended chipset drivers for linux. put them on floppy

Extract to /root. open a terminal to root. Do ..make clean and then make install. if you got a problem do ..make check and it tells you what to do. dont panic...read and think, read and think.
