hardware configuration information

hi... can anyone tell me where the particular hardware entry is made when we install. I m not a linux/unix user, but want my application running on that platform. When we install a new hardware, os makes the entry in his file( as windows does in registry), for its reference. I want the same so that I can edit the entry manually.....

Linux does not have a "registry" - Thank God!
When you add new hardware, it may be detected (depends on your distro) and the required modules loaded. If not, you will have to load them yourself.

Try the search button above for lsmod, modprobe, /etc/modules, /etc/modules.conf

If you want to know what hardware you have, try lspci
