Harddrive not detected by linux


I bought a new samsung 320 gb harddrive sata harddisk.When I tried to install RHEL5/SUSE ENTERPRISE it is saying no harddisk found.
XP IS ALREADY INSTALLED ...

How to solve this issue ,plz anyone...

Please spell your words out.

What kind of hardware, aside from the disk, are you using? This points to either a drive controller module not being found/loaded/identified, or you having a RAID controller, and not having an array defined.

You say XP is already installed...I thought you bought a new drive? A new drive that came with XP installed? Or did you install XP to it, and you're trying to dual-boot now?

I installed XP and then tried to dual boot .
It is SATA of cgate.
It's only saying no harddrive found,as in case of older linux while installing on SATA harddrive....
