harddrive install

I'm looking for a distro of linux that i can download, copy to a harddrive and then start the installation from dos or bootdisk.

The reason is because my laptop does not have a cd rom. So I want to be able to download an iso save it to my harddrive and then install it from there

FTp or network installs are not an option, since I don't have a NIC and the modem is no longer working

perferable a one cd iso, i just really need something that comes with gcc

Laptop specs
P75
32Mb ram

With that laptop. how you get the stuff on is beyond me.

Most distros allow you to do that. Just rawrite.exe network-install to floppy

I have an external cd rom, however it only has win drivers. So I can't use it with any linux boot disk (trust me i've tried).

So I just want to be able to install from a harddrive.

You can install redhat from a hard drive but you need to have the complete file tree on the drive and not an iso image. If you burn the iso to a disk and then copy the contents to the hard drive you should be able to do it.
