harddrive and buffsize=0KB

Hello,

Sorry for my bad English

I have a question because in my system when i have some access to the harddrive, the system lag a long time.

This is the result of a drive test:

Quote:
root@casimir:/home/nicolas# hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
Timing cached reads: 2496 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1247.57 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 100 MB in 3.03 seconds = 32.98 MB/sec
Quote:
root@casimir:/home/nicolas# hdparm -i /dev/hda

/dev/hda:

Model=TOSHIBA MK8026GAX, FwRev=PA001G, SerialNo=35DO2167T
Config={ Fixed }
RawCHS=16383/16/63, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=48
BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=0kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=8

UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 udma4 *udma5
AdvancedPM=yes: unknown setting WriteCache=enabled
Drive conforms to: device does not report version:

The second test report a buffer of 0KB ????? but my disk have 8Mo of buffer.
Did you mean it's the problem or not.
Thanks.

Yes, there is definitely something wrong with that. Is it an old drive? It may be failing. Is it new? Send it back for a replacement. Are you using the correct driver for your ide bus?

You can use SMART to see if the drive is failing:
