harddisk serial number
I need to know the serial number of my harddisk and I found out that this is the command
hdparm -i /dev/hda When I type this in the terminal window it says "permission denied". the Harddisk is Western Digital WD12000BB and I boot Ubuntu by a live CD What am I doing wrong, or is there maybe an easier way to find the serial. |
maybe you need to run this as root?

What you could do is go to http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp
Here you will find many tools for the HD. Most of them are available as boot systems for floppy or CD. Using these tools will give you access to the seriel number and lots more. But pls don't do anything stupid with the drive. It could work out a bit expensive. |
