Hard drive random timeout

every few hours or so i get this, and after that the comp is basically running with no hdd and freezes after a bit.

i'm using the 2.6.17.1 kernel and a MSI K8T Master2-Far7 motherboard (VIA chipset) and 2 samsung 200gb spinpoint SATA drives.

could my power supply be the problem? its only a miserable 400watt one that came free with the case

Code:
ata1: command 0xca timeout, stat 0x50 host_stat 0x4
ata1: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }

Did you check cables?

Then you could run some harddisk diagnostics tool from vendor, to see if the drives are maybe broken.

If that's all alright, I'd check the powersupply, 400 W should be enough though, but since you say it is a cheap one, this could be the problem. Did you have any problems so far when plugging in some usb device or something like that, which might produce a power peak?

the usb has been causing problems.. much like the hard drives. after about a few hours my card reader stops working, after that the USB only ever half-works. not like when i plug something in. but just out of the blue really
