Hi all,

I have an odd bios issue, my cd-rom drive must by on the pri. IDE bus for it to be seen, so I started / , would I get better proformencs if my hard disk was on pri. or sec. bus?

I would also like to know, I have a 7,200RPM 20gig drive one week old tuesday. $70 (I know but hey)
hdparm -t = 29.somethingMB/s computer is 50 mi away right now.

is 29.x MB/s good, and how can I make it better?

you will not get better performance by changing your hard drive to the promary or secondary cable. The only important rule is to put drive that will often transfert between them on different cable.
So as long your cdrom is primary and your hard drive is secondary it is ok (but I agree that the standard says that main HD should be on primary).

Oh and... 29MB/sec is pretty good for a 20 gig 7200 RPM, my old quantum do about 24MB/sec.
