Hard Drive is Not Responding, System get Hangs

I have got severe Problem. Let me first give you the system construction.

Mother Baord= Intel 865 GBF
Processor = 2.8 Ghz Hyper Threaded
Hard Drives = 4 x 120 and 1 Western Digital SATA 250 GB
LAN Cards = 1 builtin, 1 x 10/100 and 1x 100/1000 Mbs Card
Power Supply = 350 Watts
Fan = 1 rare, 1 External fan for cooling
Distributer = RH9 - Kernel = Linux-2.6.7

Problem:
Sometimes, any of the plug drives stop responding, and I can't get access on it. Later system gets hang.

Steps taken:
Cutting the Power source and after few minutes I restarted the system. Most of the time it works.

If its not work: I had to give 30 minute rest to system and disable all drives and step by step enabling and checking the drives, if system working.

Finally I got system to work. I am frequently monitoring the temperature of drives its seems OK.

This is very frustrating and unreliable.

Please guide me what should I do.

Thanks masand

Yes I do agree with it but I got fan on processor too and the cooling system I had made is quite suficient. Even though I am continously monitoring the temparature of Power Supply and other component that could be.

Tonight I had made changes in my system. I had replace the 350 watts switch Power supply with 400 watts PCF switching power supply. let see whats gonna happen.

Regards

Malik

Hi Masand

The finding of temperature is quite dessi. Well my box is opened and facing a fan in a such way that air passes over each component and then exaust from the rare. I usually check the temparature (or its better to say intensity of heat) by touch the surface of HDD, Power supply and the chasis.

It might be funiest but its no harm to do that for testing purpose.

I would appreciate if any monitoring tool you could identified for monitoring whole system.

Today is first day of changes made on Saturday night. Hope for the best.

Thanks agian

Thanks Masand

I find my system is working fine now, but let see how long. I had checked the log but there was nothing that indicate anything else except the drive interrupts.

I will try the utility to check temperature util I found something suitable.

Thanks again
