hard drive grub loading error message

I have been given a 120gig hard drive (western digital) and don't know it's history. I disconnected my 80 gig which works fine with Mepis and connected up the 120 with the same cables. On reboot with or without a linux disc or the "ultimate boot disk" I get...
GRUB Loading stage1.5.
GRUB loading, please wait....
Error 2.

There is a flashing cursor but it will not accept any commands.
I have an ASUS p4p800 m/board and celeron D 2.66 ghz processor and 512 mg ram

Any help will be appreciated

You need to amke sure that the disk that you installed grub is the master disk coz grub is trying to read your /boot/grub/menu.lst from it.

Thanks, I just changed the cable from the end connector to the middle one and that solved the problem.
Much appreciated
