hard drive error test?
Hi,
Is dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/null a reliable test for the hard drive condition? I know there are smart tests, but if I just want to make sure everything is still readable, is this sufficient? thanks, rabbit2345 |
No, the disk may correct errors on the fly without you noticing it. A SMART test or usage of the disk's manufacturer's diagnosis toll is the recommended way to do a test.
